Topic:HIGHER THAN SILVER OR GOLD

Memorize: Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk Acts 3:6

Devotional Reading: Acts 3:1-10.

Amongst the minerals that God created in different countries of the world is Gold, a prestigious and one of the most popular and highly valued commodities, it hardly depreciates in value and is generally accepted in most parts of the world.

The first land on earth according to Scriptures where gold was first discovered was Havilah, Genesis 2:11; “The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold”.

Gold. A matchless symbol of value and wealth. Throughout the centuries, countless men and women have spent much of their lives in a quest for it.

Abram was rich in gold; Genesis 13:2. The temple was filled with objects made with pure gold; 1 Kings 6. Solomon accumulated an abundance of gold.

The Bible’s first reference to gold takes place in just the second chapter of Genesis. This reminds us that God has always known the location of the world’s gold and could reveal its location at any time.

But God knows that some things are more valuable and higher than gold. He desires us to have the right priorities. We see these priorities in comments Peter made to a lame man who was begging; Acts 3:6.

The man was hoping to receive “something,” probably money to eat and take care of his immediate needs. But Peter wanted to give him things of greater value than gold or silver – health, freedom, and spiritual riches.

The same principles are true for us today. Yes, God at any time can reveal how we can find the gold and silver we need. But the Bible reminds us that some things are more important to us than the silver or gold of this world.

The salvation of our soul is one, our health is another, the peace and joy of the LORD is another, these are more important to us than gold. In the book of 2 Kings 5; Naaman was the captain of the host of the king of Syria, he was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man of valour, but he was a leper. Naaman heard about the prophet of God in Samaria by the name Elisha who God can use to heal him of his leprosy. Naaman asked permission from his master the King of Syria who granted him his request to go and see the prophet of God in Samaria for healing. Vs 5; “And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed; and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment” The healing and good health of Naaman was greater than the six thousand pieces of gold and ten talents of silver that he brought to the prophet of God, Elisha as directed by God healed Naaman and he refused to collect the highly valuable 6,000 pieces of gold and ten talents of silver which he brought, this expression spoke about the grace and mercy of God which many of us freely enjoy today. Consider how many times you have been sick even to the point of death and the wealth around you could not heal you, but mercy and grace saved you. How many times have you come to a critical point in your life when you have thought about giving up on yourself, some have considered suicide, other terrible thoughts might have come through the mind of some, the silver and gold that you have could not save you but mercy and grace saved you. If you consider your life and things you have gone through, you will recognise that the saving grace of God is higher than silver or gold, Jesus Christ is that saving grace.

Jesus told us in Matthew 6:33 that we should place priority on seeking God’s Kingdom. We need to make sure that our life is right with Him, we need to give our lives to Christ and ensure we are saved, that our sins are forgiven, and our names written in the lamb’s book of life.

The Scripture says in Mark 8:36; “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
We need to focus on things that matter most in life which is our eternity, we must strive to be good stewards, faithfully sowing the seeds we have been given, seeds of love, mercy, forgiveness, compassion, passion for lost souls, etc… and endeavour vigorously to make Heaven at the end of our lives.

I pray for you today that you will appreciate the grace and mercy of God in your life that has brought you this far, which is higher than silver or gold, hold unto Jesus the author and finisher of your faith, it shall be well with you in Jesus name.

Prayer: Jesus my saviour and my redeemer, please help me hold onto you for the rest of my life.

Key Dose: The only thing of greatest value in life is your soul which has eternal worth, release it to Jesus.
