Topic: IDENTIFY YOUR MAIN PRIORITY

Devotional Reading: Jeremiah 17:1-15

Memorize: Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is; Jeremiah 17:7.

Life generally is about identifying our priorities. Our priorities are functions of our needs and desires. Many people struggle to identify their priorities in Iife, while a large percentage of those who identifies their priorities, got it wrong. Some people place high level education as their priority, some chose multiple businesses to generate multiple incomes as their priority so that they can be economically secure, while all of these pursuits are not wrong, those should not be our priorities, God should be our main priority. There is a quote by Rick Warren that always got me thinking anytime it is quoted: it says “You never know God us all you need until God is all you have” This quote is very true. What many people are chasing almost at the cost of their health and life is not what they needed most, the real priority that they need is God which many are not chasing.

God created man for his own pleasure, he want to be glorified in our lives and He deserves it. As a result, God is displeased when man put his/her priority in any other thing other than in Him, God want us to make him our main priority, and He deserves to be.

God gave Jeremiah this powerful warning: “Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departed from the LORD” (v. 5). You will only put your trust in your priority.

We must be careful not to place our ultimate trust in people or in material things of this world, because God knows that “the heart of man is desperately wicked, the bible says who can know it?.” Having thoroughly searched people’s hearts and minds, He urges us to realise these truths about humankind.

God provides a vivid contrast here. On one hand, we see the life of blessing and prosperity that He promises for those who trust Him absolutely and make Him their main priority. He offers a picture of continual supply, for those who trust in Him “ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green”

They will be in a position to receive from Him no matter what is going on in the world around them. Even in drought, they will prosper.

In contrast, those who make people or other things their main priorities will find themselves detached from God, not depending on Him, they will not receive His continual flow of blessings. Instead, they will find themselves living “in stony wastes in the wilderness, a land of salt without inhabitant” (v. 6).

God described the “wealth,” “treasure,” and “inheritance” He has prepared for His people (v. 3). But He also warned that they could lose it all if they trusted in the wrong people. They would not “see when prosperity comes”.

The Bible makes it clear that God desires to bless every part of our lives. To receive these blessings, we must serve Him, put our trust in Him, keep His Word and identify Him as our main priority.

Instead of being self-centered, we must be ready to give of what He has given us, seeking to bless others and further His Kingdom.

I pray for you today that God will give you understanding and faith to put your total trust in Him and make Him your main priority in Jesus name.

Prayer point: O LORD, help me make you my main priority and to put my trust in you totally in Jesus name.

Key Dose: Man will fail you, BUT God can never fail you.
